HIPAA Omnibus Rule and Federal Regulations:
This course will cover the top cited HIPAA Federal Regulations, the HITECH Act and the “Omnibus Rule” (this update was finalized on September 23, 2013).
This is a 2-hour course and comes with an Office Certificate and Staff Completion cards. Every staff member, both clinical and clerical must be trained. All offices must have 6 years’ worth of rosters, and new staff members must be trained and documented within 30 days.
Office receives the updated Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and a revised Patient Authorization Form to cover the office.
The form helps you in the event the dentist and/or specialists do not both have an encrypted/secured site for sharing PHI.
Doctors attending the HHS-HIPAA event will receive training only for $250, per Practitioner associated with the practice, along with all their support staff. Restrictions apply: If the Practice has multiple Practitioners, then each one is charged as the rules are very strict in HIPAA. Every staff member must be on the roster if they are clinical or clerical/clinical. MSDS’s experience is that many offices send one staff member to a webinar and that staff member potentially will only disclose what they want the office to know. This is very unfair to the office as the liability and citations are 100% on the practitioners’ shoulders.
Free inspection assistance at an additional charge. If you would prefer to receive 10 hours of help with a future inspection, the fee for the training is $450.00 per practitioner, along with all their staff at no additional charge. I would recommend you complete the first year at the $250.00 fee. Most of our clients are very nurturing and do not like conflict, so many will opt for the 10 hours in free help with the inspections. This has a 12-month waiting period as the benefit is retailed at $2,500.00.
Typical scenario, Linda will call the office after they text her. Since the agent typically walks in at lunch time, Linda is usually available. She will ask to speak to the inspector during the original visit along with the office’s coordinator or manager being present. Most importantly, stay calm. No not panic. Once we get the inspector to request to come at another time, Linda will complete the inspection with one of your office staff members. Usually, the manager or the coordinator.
